Ruling & Reigning

Ruling and Reigning are very important aspects of our Christian experience.  Both are critical for the type of advancement we are making in the Body of Christ in this season of break through and expansion.  According to Neil Isaacs, we have entered a “new frontier.”

REIGNING is the AUTHORITY to govern by evaluation, decision, and decree.  Reigning involves the place of LEADERSHIP.

Romans 5:17 (Weymouth)                                                                                                       For if by the trespasses of the one, death reigned as king through the one, much more shall they who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign as kings in the realm of life.

ABUNDANCE OF GRACE:  God’s ability freely given to us to accomplish what we cannot accomplish in our own ability

GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:  Made judicially right with God

RULING is the POWER that is exercised in the actual fulfillment of what has been decided and decreed.  Ruling is the place of manifested behavior.  We RULE in a BENEFICIAL way; not for our own interests, but for the interests of the ones being influenced by our rule.

Genesis 1:16                                                                                                                             Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night.

This Genesis reference is the first time the word for RULING is used in scripture.  It means presiding; providing; actions of governing; and managing.  The sun and moon were created to accomplish this kind of rule in the systems of the earth.  This scripture defines one aspect of RULING.  It is a presiding over, managing aspect with the idea of providing what is needed.

Psalm 110:1,2                                                                                                                           1 The Lord said to my Lord,
 “Sit at My right hand,
till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”  The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!

This reference to RULING in Psalm 110 means to prevail against; to tread down; and to trample.  This use of RULING is more of a warfare exercise.  We RULE over our enemies.

REIGNING comes first in this sequence.  We lead, or reign, from a place of leadership authority.  It is a place or position for which authority has been granted.

RULING is second in the sequence.  In ruling we are manifesting the kind of behavior that exhibits our leadership authority in action.  This is the exercise of power.

When Barack Obama was elected as President of the United States, he entered a place of leadership authority.  We might say he entered the place of REIGNING.  The President RULES when he is exercising power in the manifested behavior of providing policies and even laws that will benefit the people of the U.S.A.  For example, the healthcare initiative of the Obama administration will hopefully be a policy and law that will benefit many American citizens in the long run.

How are these fundamentals of RULING and REIGNING functioning in your life?
